Life has been pretty good lately. I'm not saying it's perfect, but I am trying to work on being more positive. Does that give you a hint?

I really enjoy the routine, lately. I've been working Thursday - Monday and spending my weekends out at Nipika. It's been very peaceful out there, with few to no guests and lots of time to pile wood, build rock walls and go running and rollerskiing.

I took a four-day vacation out there with some friends in early November. We rented a cabin, made lots of food and did some really nice walks and hikes. It was nice to show them some of the places I really like out there - the Natural Bridge and the old cable car wire anchor. I am still trying to eat off some of the left over food, more than a week later. Luckily it's mostly crackers and cheese, which don't really go bad!

I've also been doing a lot of horse work at Nipika, which is pretty fun. I went to horse camp as a kid and it's fun to try to remember all the lessons we learned there. I've done a lot of riding in September and October. Yesterday we took all the horses from Nipika to a ranch in Invermere where they will be able to enjoy winter more. It was fun to do the "wrangling"... and it went very smoothly! I hope to get a chance to go riding in Invermere and explore Swansea Ranch where they winter.

Today is Remembrance Day. It's kind of a melancholy time of year for me so I find myself remembering a lot. It's not just thoughts of the wars (I'm reading "Three Day Road" right now - very good) but also thoughts of my family. I realize that is not the intention of Remembrance Day, but maybe it sort of is at the same time - thinking of those who were lost. My mum sent me an email on my birthday, telling me about the day I was born and how my dad had to call to work to say he would not be in that day. I'm still getting teary-eyed thinking about it. But then, I got teary-eyed reciting in Flanders Fields last night. As I say, maybe it's just that time of year.

I just got a picture in my mailbox at work - I have no idea who it is from, but I do have some suspicions. It's a team picture of the Biathlon National Team when my dad was on it in the 1970s. Bill Brooks is also in the picture. It's taken in Canmore or Banff somewhere. It's also in one of the old photo albums my mum has at home. I just put it on my bulletin board in my office. What a great surprise!

Until next time...
